Selby & District Under 13s League Cup 2nd Round

Pollington Panthers (Jets) 3 - Drax S&S 0

The Panthers moved into the next round of the cup despite missing two key players which left them with no substitutes against determined opposition. All of the Panthers goals came in the first half, Jack Hargreaves neatly headed the first one in from close range, and then quick thinking from Christian Rollin gave them a second as he stroked the ball into an open net with the goalkeeper stranded. Rollin got his second soon after with a great turn and finish from inside the area. In the second half, Drax continued to defend well and denied the Panthers the opportunity to extend their lead, midfielder Alex Bainbridge came closest with his well taken free kicks, one bouncing off the crossbar. A good all round team performance was highlighted by Man of the Match being awarded to Dan Lawson for his hard work in midfield, and Daniel Roockley was voted Players Player for his control of the left wing. Panthers now have to wait to see who they meet in the semi finals, but before that they play Carlton Cannons in the league this weekend. Thanks to the Drax players and supporters for a game played in the right spirit from start to finish.

Selby & District JFL Under 13s

Pollington Panthers (Jets) 4 - Drax S&S 0

“Rollin hat-trick secures the points”

Pollington were keen to get back to winning ways, after the enforced break of last weeks bad weather, and they found themselves against Drax for the third time this season. It was still a bitterly cold morning for the home side spectators, but they were soon warmed by an early lead when a fierce shot from centre forward Christian Rollin was too much for the keeper to keep out, and he doubled his tally soon after when he drilled the rebound into the net after the keeper had made a good save. At the other end the home side keeper David White had to keep his concentration, and was able to scoop up the few chances on his goal. The second half saw more of the same as Jets applied the pressure, and the midfield of Bainbridge, Lawson, Hargreaves, Bates, and sub Ellis, managed to get plenty of possession, allowing Rollin plenty of opportunities to increase the lead. He completed his second successive hat-trick with a simple tap in, after a gutsy run from fellow striker Chris Blenkinsop. Defenders Whitehead, Child, Wright, Bentham and sub Possnett, were rock solid at the back, leaving the visitors with little to show for their efforts. Dan Lawson made it four as he cleaned up another shot from the strikers. Man of the Match was Adam Child and Dan Lawson was voted Players Player by his team mates. Next week they play their fellow Pollington Stars team.

Team Manager John White had two things to be pleased about as an employee of BT he had received a grant of £175 from the companies Community Champion Award Scheme. The scheme is designed to provide BT people with funding on behalf of local community groups, where they re involved on a voluntary basis.

Selby & District JFL Under 13s

Pollington Panthers (Jets) 3 - Pollington Panthers (Stars) 1

There are not many clubs who can produce two teams of U13s and when you pitch school- and club-mates against each other you can expect a closely contested match. Stars took the lead after ten minutes but Jets fought back with an equaliser before taking a half-time lead.

The match continued from end-to-end as both sides looked to take an advantage in midfield, but it was Jets who managed to extend their lead when striker Christian Rollin secured his third successive hat-trick with a fine goal. The Jets squad shared the man-of-the-match award for a good all-round  performance. Both teams meet again before the end of the season, and Jets travel to North Duffield on Saturday.

North Duffield Dragons 3 - Pollington Panthers (Jets) 2

"Panthers stunned as Dragons fight back"

Pollington were left wondering how they could have squandered a 2-0 half-time lead in this Selby & District Junior League game, while the North Duffield Dragons side were able to prove that you should never give up.

Seb Ellis took the Jets off the runway with a good shot over the heads of a goalmouth scramble, and Players' Player Dan Lawson added a second with a real screamer from well outside the area. And then, after having a shot rebound off the crossbar, midfielder and Man-of-the-Match, Alex Bainbridge had a converted free-kick disallowed with a striker offside. The Dragons fought back to square the match and though the Jets had plenty of chances to restore their lead, the hosts pulled off the winner through another failure to clear. This weekend, the Pollington Panthers (Jets) meet Selby Town in the League Cup semi-final.
